INTRODUCTION:
Trinity UCC, an Open and Affirming congregation in Waynesboro, PA seeks a Director of Faith Formation will provide overall leadership for the ministries of faith formation, education and programming of the congregation, including communication with the congregation to provide guidance, ensure resources and plan for formation and fellowship activities for all life stages (children, youth, and adults). Working in partnership with the pastor and congregation, the Director helps foster a welcoming and inclusive environment where individuals and families are nurtured in Christian discipleship and invited to participate in God’s ongoing work in the world. For those who desire it, there is some opportunity for preaching and worship leadership (but this is not a requirement of the position).

Also receives support from any faith formation and community life related oversight teams that may be developed, but reporting relationship remains with pastor as head of staff.

Volunteers, including Sunday school teachers
QUALIFICATIONS/CORE COMPETENCIES:
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or demonstrated experience in education and/or program administration, preferably within a congregation/faith community environment.
- Demonstrated experience recruiting and training volunteers.
- Demonstrated experience in teaching, especially among children and youth.
- Overall ideological alignment with Trinity UCC Mission & Values.
- Some background in Christian theology, spiritual practices, and/or biblical studies, and a commitment to ongoing study via conferences, courses, workshops, etc.
- Strong organizational skills, task orientation, and ability to delegate and communicate in a timely manner.
- Ability and willingness to be present on Sunday mornings for worship and for programmatic needs before and after worship (typically 8:30/9:00-12:00/1:00 PM.
- Personal warmth, empathy, and capacity to cultivate meaningful relationships with both adults and children, including diverse family structures.
- Familiarity, comfort, and adaptability to technology and various programs, applications and devices necessary for communication and budgetary responsibilities.
- Has and maintains all clearances necessary for Safe Church guidelines.
SPECIFIC TASKS:
- Provide general direction, guidance and vision for Faith Formation such as Sunday School, children and youth fellowship, Bible Study, and special programs, at times coordinating with other committees and teams.
- Oversee planning, coordinating and volunteer recruitment for Faith Formation and other seasonal/occasional faith formation opportunities. If desired/needed, create an advisory team to help with the administration of duties for faith formation.
- In coordination with the Pastor, plan & coordinate social/community life events with/for the congregation.
- Create, implement, and administer appropriate policies, procedures and rules to ensure the safety of all persons; to include Safe Church policies and procedures.
- Coordinate nursery volunteers for Sunday mornings.
- Encourage the creativity and development of leadership skills in your team members.
- Chaperone and/or direct youth retreats, confirmation, mission trips, etc. as required. Responsibilities require some week end and out of normal church hour work.
- Communicate with parents, caregivers and congregants about the schedule of events, including utilizing personal communication, church announcements, e-tidings, facebook, etc.
- Manage supplies, inventory, and equipment needed to have a successful faith formation program.
- Submit annual budget requests for inclusion in the church budget process.
WORK HOURS:
20-25 hours a week on average, with ability to flex hours as needed and approved by the pastor. Hours are primarily done in the church setting, but is flexible when negotiated with pastor.
Sunday attendance is required, with Sundays off determined based on years of service (see compensation and benefits) and additional negotiation.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Annual salary: $25,000 ($20-$24/hr equivalent for expected work hours)
