Spiritual Warfare and the New Apostolic Reformation

An authoritarian era is upon us with Christian Nationalism at the forefront. Many forces promote this ideology, but foremost among them is the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR), a network of hyper-charismatic churches dedicated to a fundamentalist reconstruction of the United States through the domination of America’s political, social, and cultural power centers. An oligarchy of “apostles’ and “prophets” lead NAR through a constant social media stream of prophetic visions and “signs and wonders,” which the faithful take as evidence of their leaders’ anointed chosenness and divine authority. In the NAR worldview, everything and anything can become a battlefield frontline for the Forces of Light to engage the Forces of Darkness, which leads to this focus on Spiritual Warfare and members serving as “soldiers of Christ.”

Join Bradden Weaver, Social Studies teacher and studier of all things Christian Nationalism, to explore the theological ideas, religious practices, and identify formation of NAR’s polarizing spiritual warfare model that is now part of the Christian Nationalism reshaping our republic.

Theology with a Twist meets at the Kutztown Tavern the first Tuesday from September – May at 7 PM

We gather in the upper room for a time of learning and discussion about a variety of spiritual, religious and theological topics presented by local experts in their field. The event is free but food and drink can be purchased in the restaurant downstairs and can be brought up to our event space. Parking is available in the community lot behind the tavern or on Main St. All are welcome!
