SUMMARY:Boundaries with Older Adults
DESCRIPTION:Boundaries with Older Adults \nwith Rev. Beth Long-Higgins \nTuesday\, May 12\, 2026 – 5:30-8:30 p.m. OR Wednesday\, May 13\, 2026 – 9 a.m. to Noon \n(NOTE: This is a one part training being offered twice.) \n3 hours of Advanced Boundary Training for Authorized Ministers \nParticipants will engage in discussion around a general framework for boundaries in ministry with older adults in congregations\, community\, and ministry settings. Included specifically will be the clergy relationship with older adults recognizing and preventing financial exploitation and scams. \nUsing Financial Exploitation and Elder Abuse as the case Study \nAbuse and financial exploitation of older adults are complex and often hidden realities within congregational life. Most harm occurs in the context of trusted relationships\, which means clergy may find themselves alongside those who are harmed\, those who cause harm\, and those who feel unsure how to respond. Older adults themselves may struggle to recognize or disclose abuse\, particularly when health\, cognition\, family ties\, or dependence are involved. In this interactive training\, clergy will explore how financial abuse and exploitation—both online and in person—shows up in pastoral contexts and how appropriate boundaries\, theological grounding\, and congregational support can shape faithful and compassionate responses. \nThis training is online only\, via Zoom. \nLearn more and register here.

SUMMARY:Healthy Congregations: Equipping Lay Leaders for Such a Time as This
DESCRIPTION:Who is God calling you and your church to be? This online workshop will help us name together how God is calling us in these times\, and reflect on the relationships that exist within your congregation. This includes relationships between congregants\, pastor\, and church leadership. We will explore ways in which healthy boundaries and healthy communication practices can enhance your church’s work and witness to the world. \nRev. Tara Barber has been serving as your Minister for Ministerial Support and Accountability for six years. She comes to this work as a lifelong Pacific NW UCCer\, camper\, and engaged lay leader\, who participated in wider church ministries as a teenager and young adult\, and later as a Youth Leader and companion to older adults. Ordained in 2001\, she served as an Associate Pastor in Northern California and co-pastor in the Pacific NW\, before turning her focus back to the wider church\, working with COMs\, developing a COP program\, teaching Boundary Trainings and consulting around Intercultural Compassion locally and beyond the PNC. Continuing this work in her role on the MESA team\, she works from her home in Seattle\, gathering with family and venturing to the beach as often as possible \nRegister here: https://healthycongregations.eventbrite.com\n(Please note – after hitting the register button\, you are not done.  Additional questions will follow.)

SUMMARY:Clergy Convocation 2026
DESCRIPTION:“That they may all be one” John 17:21 \nRed Lion Hotel\, Hershey/Harrisburg\n4751 Lindle Rd.\, Harrisburg\, PA 17111 \nFull attendance qualifies for: 10 Contact Hours (Wed. only attendance qualifies for 5.5 hrs.) \nGuest Speaker: Dr. Shirley Mullen \nShirley Mullen\, PhD served as the president of Houghton College for 15 years. She spent four decades in the work of faith-based liberal arts education as a professor\, residential life director\, chief academic officer\, and president. Dr. Mullen wrote the 2024 book Claiming the Courageous Middle: Daring to Live and Work Together for a More Hopeful Future\, published by Baker Academic. In that text she sets out an argument for how to step into the courageous place of “the middle” – her phrasing for “Catching a Vision for a Third Way of Being in the World” (Chapter 1). She focuses on the challenges of finding a third or middle way in the midst of today’s culture wars and pays careful attention to how to do this faithfully\, reflecting often on her own Wesleyan background. Dr. Mullen is very excited to join us and engage in complex\, challenging\, and important conversations about finding our way forward in these days. We hope to see you there! \nConvocation Schedule 2026

SUMMARY:Reaffirmation of Ordination Vows
DESCRIPTION:We will host a Service of the Reaffirmation of Ordination Vows for ordained clergy. \nIt’s a long-standing custom in liturgical traditions for clergy to gather during Holy Week when Jesus offered “a new commandment”– to love and serve one another– for the reaffirmation of their ordination. We hope this will be an experience of spiritual encouragement and connection. \nClergy are encouraged to wear a stole received at their ordination\, a red stole\, or any other stole that has significant meaning. The service includes the sacrament of virtual communion so please prepare in advance. \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Politics and Preaching: Faithful Application or Misuse of the Pulpit?
DESCRIPTION:Join Rev. Dr. Carrie Call on Zoom for a discussion of “Politics and Preaching: Faithful Application or Misuse of the Pulpit?” The title is intentionally dichotomizing to reflect how so many things feel these days – there seems to be one answer only\, with very little nuance. I want to get away from that and introduce some complexity as we explore how the pulpit has been used for political purposes over the years and wrestle with when that is appropriate\, if ever. \nClick here to register.
