SUMMARY:Have You Ever Experienced Conflict in Your Church?
DESCRIPTION:The Rev. Dr. Leanna Fuller will give insight into congregational conflict as she introduces her new book: EMBODIED RECONCILIATION: Congregational Healing as Pastoral Care\nConflict is a pervasive feature of contemporary churches. Faith communities face increasingly complex and difficult matters\, and the ensuing dynamics often leave congregations and their leaders navigating the aftermath of conflict. In “Embodied Reconciliation: Congregational Healing as Pastoral Care\,” Leanna Fuller describes four sets of communal practices: truth telling\, grieving and lamenting\, confessing and repenting\, blessing and releasing that church members can engage in as concrete steps toward healing their relationships with one another.\nConsider bringing a group of your leaders and learn new ways to face conflict.\nRSVP by April 26\, 2026\nPhone: Trinity UCC at: 412-767-4794 or\nEmail: dave.mears33@gmail.com

SUMMARY:The Spirit of Religious and Civic Freedom in the Revolutionary Era
DESCRIPTION:“The Spirit of Religious and Civic Freedom in the Revolutionary Era.” \nwith Dr. Randall Zachman \nTuesdays\, April 21\, 28\, and May 5\, from 7-8:15 p.m. on Zoom. \nThis three-week series will explore the ways the quest for religious freedom influenced the pursuit of civic freedom during the revolutionary era in the American colonies. We will begin by looking at the arguments for religious freedom in Roger Williams and William Penn\, over against the involvement of the state in religious life during their times. We will then turn to the ways in which religious and civic freedom were seen to be inseparable in the sermons of Jonathan Mayhew and John Witherspoon\, so that a nation cannot have one without the other. We will conclude by hearing from the first four US presidents regarding their conviction that the constitutional project of civic freedom can only succeed if the American people remain both moral and religious\, without the government sponsoring religion. Short selections of primary source readings will be provided for each session. \nThere is no registration fee\, but you must register to receive the Zoom link for the series. \nThis series will have suggested reading between sessions. \nThis series will be counted as 6 hours of Continuing Education for authorized ministers in the Keystone Conference.

SUMMARY:Theology with a Twist: Mainline Protestant Music & Our Nation’s Shifting Religious & Sociopolitical Ecosystem
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday May 5th\, 2026 7:00 pm\nKutztown Tavern\, 272 W Main St Kutztown \nJoin Dr. Deborah Justice\, author of “(White)Washing Our Sins Away: American Mainline Churches\, Music\, Power\, and Diversity”\, for a discussion of how your worship music options reflect and shape how you relate to the divine and fellow humans. How do our musical choices in worship reflect our values? How do these choices shape our values? Everything from the type of musical instruments we use to employing hymnals vs projected lyrics creates a worship culture. My research has isolated three areas impacted by musical choices in worship: the sacred\, the sonic\, and the social. \nDr. Justice is an ethnomusicologist who studied and researched at Wesleyan University\, Indiana University\, the Yale Institute of Sacred Music\, and Syracuse University. Dr. Justice’s career shifted to university concert management\, beginning at Cornell University and moving to Kutztown’s concert series last year. She spends most of her time running around after her young son and two cats. \nThis will be our last Theology with a Twist for the season. We will begin our next season on Tuesday October 6

SUMMARY:Boundaries with Older Adults
DESCRIPTION:Boundaries with Older Adults \nwith Rev. Beth Long-Higgins \nTuesday\, May 12\, 2026 – 5:30-8:30 p.m. OR Wednesday\, May 13\, 2026 – 9 a.m. to Noon \n(NOTE: This is a one part training being offered twice.) \n3 hours of Advanced Boundary Training for Authorized Ministers \nParticipants will engage in discussion around a general framework for boundaries in ministry with older adults in congregations\, community\, and ministry settings. Included specifically will be the clergy relationship with older adults recognizing and preventing financial exploitation and scams. \nUsing Financial Exploitation and Elder Abuse as the case Study \nAbuse and financial exploitation of older adults are complex and often hidden realities within congregational life. Most harm occurs in the context of trusted relationships\, which means clergy may find themselves alongside those who are harmed\, those who cause harm\, and those who feel unsure how to respond. Older adults themselves may struggle to recognize or disclose abuse\, particularly when health\, cognition\, family ties\, or dependence are involved. In this interactive training\, clergy will explore how financial abuse and exploitation—both online and in person—shows up in pastoral contexts and how appropriate boundaries\, theological grounding\, and congregational support can shape faithful and compassionate responses. \nThis training is online only\, via Zoom. \nLearn more and register here.
