“Called To Care” (C2C) is a standardized seven session training program developed by the United Church of Christ for lay persons to be engaged in visitation ministry to hospitalized, ill,
grieving, homebound members, and other individuals in need of care.
We will be learning about confidentiality, how to begin and end a visit, when to and when not to call ahead, prayer, platitudes, scripture, boundaries, patient focused care, institutional considerations, and more.
The workshop will be from 6:00-8:00pm at First UCC in Hamburg. In person participation is preferred and encouraged; however, participating by Zoom is also an option (participants will get more out of the in-person experience and be able to participate more fully if in person). There is no fee to participate in these workshops. The workshops are designed for lay members, but are also open to clergy.
Please pre-register by 10:00am Monday, January 12, 2026 by contacting the church office at [email protected] or 610-562-2593, so that we can be sure to produce enough handouts for all those participating. Please provide your name, phone number, and email address, especially in the event that we would need to send out weather updates, and whether you plan to participate in person or by Zoom. Information can be found on our website at: https://www.hamburgfirstucc.org/events/c2c-2026-jan14
This workshop is being led by the Rev. Dr. Benjamin Motz, who has led C2C trainings for many years. He is an ordained UCC minister with over 25 years of experience and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), who has completed two units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), and who also received certification in Trauma Therapy, Compassion Fatigue, and Grief Counseling.
