In addition to OCWM, there are four Special Mission Offerings in the United Church of Christ. The offerings are One Great Hour of Sharing, Strengthen the Church, Neighbors in Need, and The Christmas Fund. By contributing to OCWM basic support and these four Special Mission Offerings, churches receive a certificate for being “Five for Five.”
The Christmas Fund has been caring for active and retired clergy and lay employees of the United Church of Christ for over 100 years, providing emergency grants, supplementation of small annuities and health premiums, and Christmas “Thank You” gift checks each December to our lower-income retirees.
Neighbors in Need supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States. One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM). The other two-thirds of the offering support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, direct service projects, and grants.
One Great Hour of Sharing supports partners worldwide with ministries that fund health, education and agricultural development, emergency relief, refugee ministries, and both international and domestic disaster response.
Strengthen the Church contributions are equally shared by Conferences and the national setting of the UCC. The funds raised support leadership development, new churches, youth ministry, and innovation in existing congregations.
