“Bread for the World” Letter Writing Campaign

The mission theme for the Keystone Conference of the UCC for the next two years is “People of the Table,” which will help the 512 churches in the Conference to focus on hunger insecurity.

At last week’s meeting of the Conference’s People of the Table Committee, a pastor mentioned that Bread for the World has started a letter-writing campaign to Members of the US House of Representatives and Senate asking them to delay changes in the cost-sharing formula that will make states pick up a larger share of the cost of the Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). As it stands, October 1 is the first deadline for states to take on more of the costs for SNAP, but states across the political spectrum are not fully prepared to absorb the changes from H.R. 1 by then. Unless that is changed, many families in the Commonwealth—including those with children—will fall through the cracks and not receive the nutrition they need.

If this is an issue that strikes a chord with you, Bread for the World invites you to ask Congress to delay implementing the new cost-share requirements for SNAP.  You can do that at their website
